Smuggling Scandal: Texas Trooper Uncovers Camouflage-Clad Illegals, Including a Chinese National!

Eagle Pass, Texas — A traffic stop on U.S. Highway 277 led to the arrest of a 34-year-old Nicaraguan man accused of smuggling multiple illegal immigrants into the United States. The incident, which unfolded on January 30, highlights ongoing concerns about human trafficking along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers stopped a gray Toyota Camry driven by Juan Alfonso Merlo Ibarra, who was identified as an illegal alien from Nicaragua. According to DPS spokesperson Lt. Chris Olivarez, Merlo was charged with four counts of smuggling persons, a felony under Texas law. He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Maverick County jail, where he awaits legal proceedings.

The discovery of other illegal occupants in the vehicle further stirred concerns. Video footage from the encounter reveals that all four individuals, including a Chinese man, were dressed in camouflage attire, suggesting an effort to evade detection. BeiBei Liu, 34, was identified as the Chinese national, categorized as a Special Interest Alien (SIA), who was likely attempting to bypass border security.

The three additional individuals in the car were determined to be Mexican nationals. They, along with Liu, were handed over to Border Patrol agents in the Del Rio sector for additional processing and potential deportation.

In a separate incident the following day, authorities arrested Kris Romar Hall, a registered sex offender from Killeen, Texas. Hall, 71, was reportedly involved in smuggling three illegal immigrants. Troopers apprehended him after another traffic stop in the same area, adding to the ongoing efforts against human trafficking networks.

Hall, who has a history of sexual offenses, was previously convicted in 2007 for oral copulation with a minor. He registered as a sex offender in Killeen late last year, raising concerns about public safety related to his involvement in illicit activities.

These arrests emphasize the critical role of DPS troopers as part of Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star, which aims to combat illegal immigration and its associated crimes. The operations are part of a broader strategy to intercept individuals attempting to enter the U.S. unlawfully before they can further penetrate the interior.

With the ongoing challenges surrounding border security and human trafficking, law enforcement continues to adapt its strategies in response to changing tactics used by smugglers and illegal entrants.
