Santa Monica, California – A jury has ordered rapper Soulja Boy to pay $4 million to a woman who accused him of sexual assault during their nearly two-year relationship.

The 34-year-old rapper, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was found liable for sexual battery, assault, and imprisonment in a lawsuit brought by a woman who worked as his assistant. The woman, who filed her complaint anonymously, alleged that Way regularly raped and beat her, sometimes keeping her as a prisoner.

During the trial, the woman testified that when she started working for Way, she weighed approximately 150lbs, but had dropped to 86lbs when she managed to escape. She described feeling dehumanized and like an animal due to the mistreatment she endured.

Despite the abuse, the woman testified that she and Way had moments of love and what seemed like a consensual relationship. Text messages presented in court showed expressions of love between them, as well as apologies and conflicts.

In addition to claims of sexual assault, Way was found liable for intentional infliction of emotional distress, sexual harassment, and nonpayment of wages. However, he was cleared of claims of false imprisonment and constructive discharge.

The woman’s attorney, Ron Zambrano, expressed satisfaction with the jury’s decision, stating they believed her claims of assault. Zambrano indicated they were eager to proceed to the punitive damages phase of the case.

Conversely, Way’s attorney, Rickey Ivie, alleged that the woman fabricated her story out of greed. Ivie contended that the case was solely about monetary gain rather than truth. The trial outcome marked a significant legal battle for both parties involved.
