South Carolina teen stabs his grandfather and strangles his grandmother in gruesome murder scene

WESTMINSTER, SC – Authorities in Oconee County have charged a 19-year-old man with the murders of his grandparents, whose bodies were discovered in their South Carolina home earlier this month.

Levi Kevin Jones, a resident of Westminster, was arrested over the weekend and faces two counts of murder, along with two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. He is being held in the Oconee County Detention Center as he awaits a bond hearing. Officials have not commented on whether Jones has entered a plea or secured legal representation.

The investigation began January 15, when a family member found the bodies of Larry Moore, 76, and Sandra Moore, 75, inside their residence near Westminster. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and soon concluded the couple’s deaths were the result of homicide. Investigators initially described the situation as an isolated incident.

Details from arrest warrants reveal that Jones is accused of stabbing his grandfather multiple times, targeting the torso and neck. Authorities allege that he strangled his grandmother. Officials have not released any information regarding a motive for the killings.

Larry and Sandra Moore were longtime fixtures in their community, known for their involvement at Calvary Church. The church expressed its condolences online, urging the community to pray for the Moore family and those who knew them.

For decades, the Moores owned and operated Moore and Moore Fish Camp, a well-established restaurant in the area. According to family members, the couple retired in 2016, but their presence remained strong among neighbors and friends. Larry was celebrated for his passion for fishing, while Sandra was fondly remembered for her appreciation of hummingbirds.

As the investigation continues, community members and those close to the family have been left shocked by the events. The sheriff’s office has stated that no further details about the case or the investigation have been released to the public, including any potential reason for the alleged attack.

Jones remains in custody pending further proceedings. The sheriff’s office has not indicated when future court appearances will occur.

The deaths of Larry and Sandra Moore have cast a pall over Westminster, a small town now grappling with the aftermath of the tragedy and seeking answers.
