Spaceballs Returns: Bill Pullman, Rick Moranis, and Keke Palmer Join Forces in Epic Sequel!

Los Angeles, California — Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis are returning to the iconic universe of “Spaceballs” as they revive their beloved roles of Lone Starr and Dark Helmet, respectively, in an upcoming sequel produced by Amazon MGM Studios. Joining the duo is Keke Palmer, known for her recent work in “One of Them Days,” although details about her character remain under wraps alongside the broader plot of the film.

The casting of Moranis is particularly noteworthy, given his absence from the big screen for nearly two decades. Mel Brooks, who directed and starred in the original film, will also reprise his role as Yogurt. The release date is scheduled for 2027, and the film has been humorously described by insiders as “A Non-Prequel Non-Reboot Sequel Part Two but with Reboot Elements Franchise Expansion Film.”

Directing the project will be Josh Greenbaum, recognized for his work on “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar.” The screenplay, crafted by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Josh Gad, promises to deliver a contemporary spin on the beloved franchise. In addition to starring in the film, Gad will produce alongside veteran filmmakers such as Brian Grazer and Jeb Brody, while executive producers include Kevin Salter, Adam Merims, Samit, and Hernandez.

The original “Spaceballs” debuted in 1987 and became a beloved cult classic, parodying familiar elements from the sci-fi genre, particularly the “Star Wars” saga. The storyline follows the misadventures of Lone Starr, who, along with his sidekick Barf and Princess Vespa, must thwart the evil plans of Dark Helmet and President Skroob. The film’s iconic moments and memorable characters have cemented its status over the years, grossing over $38 million globally.

Pullman, widely recognized for his roles in “Independence Day” and David Lynch’s “Lost Highway,” has sustained a vibrant career through various television shows and films like “The Sinner,” “The High Note,” and “Dark Waters.” He is set to appear in Netflix’s upcoming series “The Boroughs” and other highly anticipated projects.

Moranis, a staple of ’80s and ’90s cinema with memorable performances in “Ghostbusters” and “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids,” largely stepped away from acting in the late 1990s to focus on family responsibilities after the loss of his wife. Most recently, he collaborated with Ryan Reynolds on a humorous advertisement, marking a return to public life.

Palmer is enjoying burgeoning success, riding high from her work on “One of Them Days,” which has already prompted plans for a sequel. She is slated to star in various upcoming projects, including Amazon’s comedy “The Pickup,” alongside Eddie Murphy, and Aziz Ansari’s film “Good Fortune.”

As anticipation builds for this new chapter in the “Spaceballs” saga, fans are eagerly awaiting to see how the sequel captures the spirit of the original while introducing fresh elements that resonate with today’s audience. With a mix of familiar faces and new talent, the film aims to rekindle the charm of its predecessor for both old fans and new generations.
