Cahuita, Costa Rica — The surfing community is mourning the loss of Kurt Van Dyke, a 66-year-old American surfer, whose life was tragically cut short during a home invasion at his apartment in this Caribbean coastal town. Authorities were alerted around 10:50 a.m. Saturday after a report of a deceased man was received, prompting law enforcement to investigate.

When officers arrived at the scene in Talamanca, located approximately 105 miles from San Jose, they confirmed Van Dyke’s death. Justice agency spokesperson Carlos Valverde indicated that the incident involved two armed assailants who threatened Van Dyke and a female companion at gunpoint.
