Suspect Charged in Daytona Beach Mother and Infant’s Fatal Stabbing, Arson

DAYTONA BEACH, FL – A horrific scene unfolded in Daytona Beach as a mother and her infant child were tragically killed, while two other children suffered critical injuries following an apartment fire that was found to be intentionally set. Authorities have apprehended and charged a suspect in connection with the incident.

Daytona Beach Police responded on Monday evening to reports of a blaze at a residential building in the 1200 block of Bellevue Road. Upon arrival, firefighters and law enforcement discovered 30-year-old Den’Jah Moore, alongside her three young children, inside the burning apartment.

Moore, who had suffered multiple stab wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene, while her 10-month-old son succumbed to his injuries after being transported to the hospital. The two surviving children, aged four and five, are currently in critical condition, battling for their lives after being left in the flames, according to officials.

Investigations led law enforcement to Charles Ivy, 34, who now faces two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted felony murder, and one count of arson. The fire, which primarily consumed a bedroom in the apartment, was exacerbated by all four burners of the kitchen stove being turned on, as detailed in the arrest affidavit.

Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young, in a press conference, remarked on the brutality of the crime and suggested that the violence was domestic in nature. He hinted at Ivy possibly being the father of at least two of the children involved.

Ivy was later stopped by the police while reportedly moving bags into his SUV. He did not confess to the crimes during his interaction with law enforcement, yet he implicated himself by placing himself at the scene during the critical time frame. His vehicle was also tracked leaving the vicinity shortly after the incident occurred, and he was in possession of the victim’s cell phone, adding to the evidence against him.

Support for the grieving family and the surviving children has been pouring in through a GoFundMe campaign established to assist with funeral expenses and medical bills for the recovering children.

As the community and local authorities continue to unravel the circumstances behind this tragedy, it remains uncertain whether Ivy has entered a plea or if he has legal representation to address the charges brought against him.

This story is still developing as further investigatory efforts persist to bring clarity and justice in the aftermath of what is being described as one of the most tragic and heinous crimes in the area’s recent history.
