SYRACUSE, NEW YORK – Prince Smith, a 22-year-old resident of Syracuse, has been sentenced to 68 months in prison for his involvement in a fentanyl distribution and possession conspiracy. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and John B. DeVito, Special Agent in Charge of the New York Field Division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).

Smith, who had previously pleaded guilty, confessed to distributing approximately 19 grams of fentanyl and using a firearm while engaging in drug distribution. On February 18, 2021, Smith was apprehended with fentanyl stored in the center console of his vehicle, along with a loaded 9mm handgun.

In addition to the prison sentence, United States District Judge Glenn T. Suddaby also ordered Smith to serve a three-year term of supervised release following his release from prison.

The investigation into Smith’s activities was carried out jointly by the ATF and the Syracuse Police Department-Criminal Intelligence Section. The case was successfully prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Sutcliffe.
