Deputies used a tourniquet before the wounded man was taken to a Chattanooga hospital for surgery.

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. — Hamilton County deputies responding to a home on the night of July 4 found a 33-year-old man losing a large amount of blood from a wound in his upper thigh, according to an arrest report. Officers applied a tourniquet before paramedics took him to a hospital, where he underwent surgery.

The emergency response began an investigation that led authorities to charge 22-year-old Jasminne Lynn Thomas with attempted first-degree murder, aggravated domestic assault and aggravated burglary. Investigators allege Thomas stabbed the man, described in reports as her on-again, off-again boyfriend, during an argument inside his mother’s home on Village Garden Drive in Ooltewah. The allegations are contained in an arrest report cited by local news outlets and Law&Crime. The charges have not been proven in court, and the available reports do not identify an attorney speaking on Thomas’ behalf.

Deputies were sent to the residence after the man’s mother and her boyfriend returned from watching fireworks in nearby Collegedale, according to the report. They had left the house earlier in the evening and came back sometime between 10:30 and 11 p.m. The mother told investigators that she found her son bleeding and that Thomas was still at the home. Thomas appeared highly upset and repeatedly denied stabbing him, the report says. The wounded man gave deputies a different account and identified Thomas as the person who had injured him. The man’s condition required immediate action. Deputies described the bleeding as heavy and continuous, according to reports based on the arrest affidavit. They placed the tourniquet near the wound to slow the blood loss while waiting for medical personnel. He was then taken to Erlanger Baroness Hospital in Chattanooga and underwent surgery. As emergency workers treated the man, investigators began documenting the interior of the home.
