Terrorist Attack in Moscow Suburb Kills Dozens and Injures Scores at Concert Hall

Moscow, Russia – A horrifying attack unfolded at a concert hall in a Moscow suburb on Friday night, resulting in the deaths of at least 60 people and leaving 145 others injured, according to Russian authorities. This tragic event marks one of the deadliest assaults to occur in Russia in recent years.

Disturbing videos circulating online depicted armed men storming the Crocus City Hall, with one assailant firing shots from what appeared to be an assault rifle. Another graphic video showed a group of armed men chasing individuals and shooting at them at close range. Reports from a journalist present at the scene described a grenade or incendiary bomb being detonated, sparking a fire after the initial shooting.

Footage provided by the state-run TASS news agency showed the concert hall engulfed in flames, located about 16 kilometers northwest of Moscow’s center. Later, the Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack through a post on its Telegram channel.

Following the initial reports of the shooting, Moscow region Governor Andrei Vorobyov arrived at the scene, leading response efforts. Over 70 ambulance teams and medical personnel worked diligently to aid the injured near Crocus City Hall. Special forces and riot police units were dispatched in response to the incident, as law enforcement officers encircled the concert hall to secure the area.

Approximately 6,200 individuals were believed to be inside the concert hall during the attack, with around 100 managing to escape through the theater’s basement and others seeking refuge on the roof. The band performing that evening, Piknik, fortunately remained unharmed.

Efforts were made to extinguish the fire with the assistance of three helicopters, and by midnight, the emergencies ministry reported that the fire had been contained. The Investigative Committee of Russia initiated a criminal terrorism case in response to the incident.
