HOUSTON, TX – A Houston man faces murder and evidence tampering charges after police say he fatally beat another man with a television and left the victim’s body at a local bus stop on Sunday morning.

Police responded around 8:30 a.m. on November 25 to a report of an unresponsive person at a bus stop in the 600 block of East Tidwell Road. Upon arrival, they found a man seated in a wheelchair who had no signs of life. Paramedics declared the man dead at the scene.

During the initial investigation, authorities identified Carl Taylor, 44, as a suspect. Officers traced evidence to a nearby apartment, where they located a broken television, bloody towels, and apparent drag marks on the floor. Detectives believe Taylor assaulted the man inside his residence with the television and possibly additional items before placing the body in a wheelchair.

Surveillance footage reportedly shows Taylor wheeling the victim from the apartment complex to the nearby bus stop in the early hours of the morning. Once at the stop, Taylor is believed to have abandoned the victim.

The Harris County District Attorney’s office filed charges of murder and tampering with evidence against Taylor, who lived in the apartment where the assault allegedly took place. Police have not released the identity of the deceased individual, and officials have not commented on what relationship, if any, existed between the two men.

Investigators believe the victim may have been homeless. The apartment complex in question primarily houses low-income seniors and adults with disabilities, according to property records.

Taylor was taken into custody and booked into Harris County Jail. His bond was set at $130,000. Jail records indicate Taylor has a lengthy criminal record spanning the past twenty years, which includes previous arrests for theft, resisting arrest, and making terroristic threats.

Taylor’s attorney, Mark Hochglaube, said he had not yet reviewed the surveillance video taken from the apartment complex. Further details about the case will likely emerge when evidence is presented in upcoming court proceedings.

Taylor’s next scheduled court appearance is set for February 9. As of Tuesday, authorities had not provided any information on a possible motive for the fatal beating.

The investigation remains ongoing as law enforcement work to determine the circumstances leading up to the incident.
