Texas man stabbed over 50 times by his 38-year-old girlfriend who had help from her sister

WACO, TX – In a chilling plea agreement, an Oklahoma woman confessed to a vicious crime involving the murder of her ex-boyfriend in April at an apartment complex in McLennan County. Leah Breuer, 38, pled guilty to the murder of David Peeler, 44, enduring a grisly attack that left him with over 50 stab wounds.

Prosecutors accepted Breuer’s guilty plea on Monday, offering her a 35-year prison sentence. Her sister, Joann Cometsevah, 34, faces similar charges, accused of murder and evidence tampering. Cometsevah’s legal proceedings remain pending, with no set trial date despite talks of a potential plea agreement.

Authorities allege the sisters conspired to end Peeler’s life. Breuer reportedly implicated Cometsevah in removing the murder weapon from the scene. Investigators received this information from a jailhouse informant who claimed Breuer confessed these details while incarcerated.

Officers discovered Peeler’s body on a deflated air mattress at the crime scene, highlighting the brutality of the assault. Stab wounds to his neck and torso corroborated the violent narrative prosecutors presented in court.

Breuer’s attorney acknowledged the gravity of the crime, expressing sympathy for Peeler’s family while affirming Breuer’s decision to accept responsibility. The court heard poignant victim impact statements, with one of Peeler’s sisters sharing the heartache of his final moments and the profound loss their family endured.

The history between Breuer and Peeler included prior domestic disturbances, although no charges were previously filed against Breuer for an incident in October 2022.

The local police department and district attorney’s office thanked investigators for overcoming initial case challenges, emphasizing the importance of securing the guilty plea. They expect this resolution will offer Peeler’s family solace, avoiding the potential difficulties of a drawn-out trial.

With Breuer’s conviction, the community hopes for closure in a case that has cast a shadow over McLennan County, serving as a stark reminder of the devastating impacts of domestic violence and crime.
