BRIDGEPORT, TX – A Bridgeport woman is facing a murder charge after authorities say she fatally shot her husband during a domestic dispute Sunday evening, according to police reports.
Officers responded to a home in the 1200 block of Cherokee Street around 10 p.m. on Sunday following a call from the woman’s father-in-law. Upon arrival, officers found 46-year-old Michael C. Thomas with multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect, identified as 45-year-old Sandy Micheal Williams, met police at the door and was taken into custody without incident. Authorities said Williams was cooperative throughout their initial investigation and was later transported to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office for questioning.
According to court records, Williams told police that she and her husband had been married for three years. She described an argument that escalated into a physical altercation on the night of the shooting. Williams claimed that Thomas grabbed her by the hair and pulled her to the floor during the confrontation.
After the alleged assault, Williams reported that Thomas walked upstairs, at which point she retrieved a firearm. Police say she then followed him and shot him multiple times. Investigators noted that Williams admitted to intentionally shooting her husband, stating she intended the outcome that followed.
Williams recounted to police that she had previously warned Thomas about the consequences if he became violent with her. When asked about her intentions, officers said she confirmed she hoped her actions would result in his death.
Following her arrest, Williams was booked into the Wise County Jail. She remains in custody on a $50,000 surety bond. Details regarding her upcoming court appearance have not yet been released.
Officials have not provided information about any prior reports of domestic issues within the household. The couple’s neighbors described the incident as shocking for the otherwise quiet residential area.
An investigation into the shooting remains ongoing as authorities in Bridgeport work to piece together the sequence of events leading up to Thomas’ death. No additional suspects are being sought at this time, and police have described the incident as isolated.
