Toblerone, the beloved triangular-shaped chocolate, is making headlines as it drops the famous Swiss mountain image from its packaging. The decision comes after the brand can no longer claim to be Swiss-made in light of recent changes to Swissness regulations.
The iconic Matterhorn will no longer adorn Toblerone’s packaging as the brand can no longer meet the country’s strict standards of Swissness. The revised regulations implemented in 2017 require at least 80% of the chocolate’s raw materials to be of Swiss origin, with the entire production process conducted in Switzerland.
While Toblerone’s production remains in Switzerland, the brand is unable to meet the composition requirements due to the global nature of its supply chain. To continue using the Swiss Made label, Toblerone will instead feature a new design without the Matterhorn image.
The decision has sparked mixed reactions from fans of the chocolate, with some disappointed to see the iconic image go, while others understand the importance of upholding the Swissness regulations.
Despite the changes, Toblerone remains a popular sweet treat with a loyal following. The brand’s unique shape and creamy chocolate are sure to keep fans coming back, regardless of the packaging design.
