TORNADO THREAT across Massachusetts with Sunday storms: Strong winds and severe weather expected in the region

Needham, Massachusetts – A strong south wind is expected to bring severe storms to Massachusetts later today, with the risk of tornadoes looming. Storm Team 5 is tracking two rounds of storms, with the second round potentially causing significant impacts. After a warm and humid morning, severe storms are forecasted to develop in northern and western Massachusetts as early as 1 p.m., then moving southeast throughout the afternoon and evening. These storms could bring damaging wind gusts, flash flooding, and the possibility of tornadoes.

Meteorologist David Williams of StormTeam5 highlighted the severe weather threat extending from southern New England all the way into northern New England, with the highest risk north and west of Boston. While Boston may not see storms until after 4 p.m., areas south of the city could experience even later arrival times. The severe weather threat is anticipated to diminish by 10 p.m. following the storm activity.

Residents in the path of the storms are advised to seek shelter in a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building if a tornado occurs. If caught outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, individuals should seek shelter in the closest substantial building and protect themselves from flying debris. As conditions improve heading into Tuesday, Monday may see a few low-impact showers, with dry periods in between.

The weather alerts, interactive radar, and forecast maps provided by Storm Team 5 can help residents stay informed and prepare for the evolving weather conditions. The heightened severe weather threat prompts a need for vigilance and readiness in the affected areas.
