TORNADO WARNING issued for Lancaster, Seward, and Saline County in Nebraska – Flash Flood and Severe Thunderstorm Alerts in Effect!

LINCOLN, Nebraska – The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Warning for parts of southeastern Nebraska last night, including areas in southwestern Lancaster County, southeastern Seward County, and northeastern Saline County. The warning was in effect until 12:15 a.m.

A severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was detected around 3 miles southwest of Crete, moving east at 25 mph. In addition to the Tornado Warning, a Flash Flood Warning was also issued for central Lancaster County until 2:45 a.m. Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rainfall in the warned areas, with up to 1 inch of rain already fallen and an expected rainfall rate of 1 to 2 inches per hour.

Furthermore, the National Weather Service also issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Lancaster, Saline, and Seward counties. A severe thunderstorm was reported moving east at 35 mph, located northwest of Crete.

Residents in the affected areas were urged to take precautions and stay indoors until the severe weather passed. Flash flooding was likely to occur, with additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches possible.
