Tortured and abused 8-year-old California boy found dead in cooler full of ice and police arrest parents and grandmother

LYNWOOD, CA – Authorities in Southern California have arrested three family members in connection with the death of an 8-year-old boy, whose body was discovered in a cooler in their Lynwood apartment. The boy’s parents and grandmother face charges of murder and torture as investigators allege prolonged abuse led to the child’s death.

Los Angeles County detectives identified the child as Isaiah H. Officials allege that Isaiah suffered extended abuse at the hands of his mother, 25-year-old Destiny Harrison; his father, 25-year-old Daniel Monzon; and his 45-year-old paternal grandmother, Ana Carcamo Zarceno. The trio was taken into custody after the boy’s body was found days after he reportedly died from his injuries.

Prosecutors have charged all three with murder, torture, and child abuse resulting in death. In addition, Monzon and Zarceno face accessory-after-the-fact charges for their alleged roles in the aftermath of the crime. Authorities believe the adults caused significant harm, accusing them of willfully inflicting injuries that resulted in Isaiah’s death.

Emergency responders were called to the family’s Lynwood residence, where they discovered Isaiah’s body stored inside a cooler filled with ice. According to official accounts, the abuse spanned a length of time before ultimately proving fatal on October 24. The specific cause of death has not been publicly disclosed as the investigation continues.

At the time of the discovery, three other children—ages 16, 13, and 9 months—were also found living in the home. Child protective services have since removed them and placed them in care, as the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services initiates further evaluations.

Neighbors expressed shock following the arrests, describing the family as appearing unremarkable in day-to-day life. Residents recalled seeing Harrison walking her dog and accompanying her children from the school bus, noting that she appeared friendly and calm. Another neighbor remarked that the children played outside under their mother’s watchful eye, with nothing seemingly out of the ordinary occurring at the home.

Law enforcement officials highlighted the deeply disturbing nature of the alleged crime, emphasizing both the brutality of the acts and the apparent betrayal by trusted caregivers. The case has drawn strong reactions from community leaders, with officials urging for the surviving children’s well-being to be safeguarded as investigations proceed.

Bail for each defendant was set at $2 million. If convicted, they could face prison sentences of 32 years to life.

As the case moves through the legal system, authorities continue to review the circumstances leading up to Isaiah’s death, while also focusing on ensuring the safety and support of the surviving children.
