New Delhi, India – Tesla Inc., led by CEO Elon Musk, has taken legal action against an Indian battery company named Tesla Power for alleged trademark infringement. The dispute between the two companies has escalated to the Delhi High Court, where Tesla Inc. alleges that Tesla Power is continuing to use its name despite receiving a cease-and-desist letter two years ago.

In response to the allegations, Tesla Power India argued that they specialize in lead acid batteries and have no intentions of entering the electric vehicle industry. The company’s stated mission is to become a leading brand in the energy storage sector in India by 2025.

Senior counsel for Tesla Inc., Chander Lall, highlighted the confusion caused by Tesla Power’s use of the name and the negative impact on their business operations. The court issued a temporary ban on Tesla Power from using the name for promotions until the next hearing scheduled for May 22.

The lawsuit follows Elon Musk’s recent visit to China, where he engaged in discussions with Premier Li Qiang about deploying advanced driver-assistance features in the country. The meeting with Li emphasized a desire for increased trade collaboration between China and the U.S.

Tesla Power has been given a deadline to provide written responses for their defense in court. The legal battle underscores the importance of protecting intellectual property rights in the business world, especially in the rapidly evolving electric vehicle industry.
