Tragedy: Man Found Dead in Submerged Vehicle After Storm Ravages Scottsdale Park

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A tragic incident unfolded during Friday night’s severe storms when a vehicle was discovered submerged in a park, leading to the death of the driver.

Emergency responders arrived at Vista Del Camino Park around 7:40 p.m. in response to reports of a car in the water near 77th and Garfield streets. Upon reaching the scene, police officers saw that the vehicle was almost entirely underwater, with only the trunk above the surface. Given the treacherous conditions, they called for fire crews to assist in a swift water rescue.

Attempts to locate the owner of the vehicle initially yielded no results. Family members later informed authorities that 38-year-old Ander Polanco had not been heard from since approximately 6:15 p.m. He was last known to be engaged in a food delivery. This prompted law enforcement to file a missing person report and notify the Department of Public Safety.

As waters began to recede early Saturday morning, officers discovered a body outside the submerged vehicle. Scottsdale police later confirmed that the individual was indeed Polanco.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident, focusing on the circumstances that led to the vehicle entering the water. The Scottsdale community is now grappling with the loss, as friends and family remember Polanco for his vibrant personality and dedication to his work.

Local residents expressed shock and sorrow, revealing that storms in the area can create dangerous conditions, particularly in low-lying areas prone to flooding. Officials are urging the public to exercise caution during severe weather events and to stay informed about local conditions.

Further details regarding the investigation and any potential safety measures will be released as they become available. As the community mourns, the tragedy serves as a reminder of the unpredictable dangers posed by sudden storms.
