ENSENADA, Mexico – Three tourists were tragically found dead in a well in Mexico’s north-west region, each suffering from bullet wounds to the head according to local authorities. The victims were identified as Australian brothers, Jake and Callum Robinson, ages 30 and 33, and their American friend, Jack Carter Rhoad, 30. The trio disappeared on April 27 during a surfing excursion in Ensenada.
The bodies of the three men were discovered in a 15-foot deep well, approximately 4 miles from where the attack took place in the town of Santo Tomás. Officials suspect that the tourists were targeted during an attempted theft of their pickup truck, with the assailants resorting to violence when they resisted. The attackers purportedly were after the vehicle’s tires.
Family members of the victims made the heartbreaking trip to Mexico to help identify the bodies, with state prosecutors confirming their worst fears. Authorities believe that the tourists were victims of a violent robbery that turned fatal, resulting in their bodies being discarded in the well.
Further adding to the tragedy, a fourth body was also found in the same well, although officials stated it was unrelated to the case. Three suspects have been apprehended in connection to the attack, as investigations continue in the notoriously violent state of Baja California.
