Tragic Loss Sparks Candlelight Vigil to Honor Slain Richmond Woman in Albany Shooting

Albany, California – A candlelight vigil is set to take place on Saturday at Toyota of Berkeley Certified Service Center in Albany to honor the life of Alonna Gallon, a 24-year-old Richmond woman who was tragically killed by the father of her child. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim as Gallon and the perpetrator as 24-year-old Lamar Walker of Vacaville. Gallon’s mother, Yuvonda Gallon, has launched a GoFundMe page to raise funds for her 7-year-old grandson’s college tuition, therapy, and other essential programs. According to Yuvonda Gallon, Alonna had been attempting to distance herself from Walker due to his reckless behavior. Despite her efforts, Walker fatally ended her life.

The heartbreaking incident unfolded on September 21 when witnesses began dialing 911 at 11:14 a.m. Berkeley police arrived at the scene first, evacuating the area and swiftly entering the building. Their primary objective was to rescue any potential victims. Upon reaching the second floor, they discovered Walker lurking near a desk, aiming a revolver at them. Faced with imminent danger, five officers opened fire, ultimately striking Walker multiple times. Tragically, Gallon was found deceased on the floor, a victim of a gunshot wound to her head. Although Walker may have tried to take his own life before the authorities arrived, it was the officers’ gunfire that ultimately ended his life, according to Sheriff’s Lt. Tya Modeste.

In the wake of this senseless act of violence, Modeste expressed condolences to Gallon’s loved ones, acknowledging the pain they are enduring. Those close to Gallon described her as a compassionate, shy individual who possessed a great deal of love and unselfishly prioritized her son’s needs. Her dream was to support him throughout his life, including putting him through college.

The vigil, scheduled for 6 p.m., will be conducted outside the dealership where Gallon was employed. It is an opportunity for family, friends, and community members to come together, remember the life of Alonna Gallon, and stand united against such tragic circumstances.
