Tragic Murder-Suicide Claims Lives of Siblings and Father in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A tragic murder-suicide has left a community in mourning, as a father and his two children were found dead in their home on Water Lily Circle early Tuesday morning. The Winston-Salem Police Department has confirmed that 55-year-old David Lee Housden shot and killed his 16-year-old daughter, Kaylee Nicole Housden, and his 20-year-old son, Alexander David Housden, before taking his own life.

The family’s devastating loss has sent shockwaves through the community, with Winston Salem State University (WSSU) officials revealing that Alexander was a junior majoring in exercise science at the university, while Kaylee was a student at Atkins High School and part of the color guard. Tricia McManus, superintendent of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, has announced the availability of a crisis team to provide support to students, faculty, and staff during this difficult time.

The university and school district have both expressed their heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the victims, highlighting Alexander’s outstanding academic performance and aspirations to become a physician’s assistant. The WSSU Exercise Physiology Department described Alexander as an exemplary student who was always willing to help his peers and engage in insightful conversations with his professors about his academic journey and career path.

In the wake of this tragedy, WSSU encourages students and staff to seek counseling services if needed, recognizing the difficulty in processing such a loss. The community has also been urged to utilize mental health resources available to them during this challenging time.

The loss of the Housden family has deeply impacted the Winston-Salem community, and as details continue to emerge, the community is left to grapple with the devastating effects of this senseless act.
