On a highway in Tennessee, tragedy struck when six young girls were killed in a car crash. The girls, ages ranging from 8 to 16 years old, were ejected from the car they were riding in after it collided with a shoulder barrier and flipped over. Five of the girls died at the scene, while the sixth girl was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after.
The tragic accident also claimed the lives of two adults and five other children. In total, six children and two adults lost their lives in the crash. The accident occurred on an interstate in Robertson County.
Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the crash, but preliminary reports suggest that the car may have been traveling too fast for the conditions on the road. The girls were heading home from a church retreat at the time of the accident.
The community has rallied around the families of the victims, offering support and condolences during this difficult time. “Our hearts break for these families who have lost loved ones in this tragic accident,” Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said in a statement. “We offer our deepest sympathies and prayers for everyone affected by this heartbreaking loss.”
