PATNA, India (AP) — In a tragic incident in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district, three family members, including a one-year-old girl, were fatally shot by their relatives on Tuesday afternoon, according to local authorities.

The incident took place in Navtolia village under Gopalpur police station at around 4:30 pm, where Chandan Kumar, 40, his wife Chandni Devi, 30, and their one-year-old daughter Roshni Kumari were killed.

According to SP Naugachia, Sushant Kumar Saroj, the suspects are Chandni’s father and brother, who are currently on the run. “We have constituted a team headed by a SDPO rank officer to apprehend the accused. Raids are currently underway,” he said.

Chandni had gotten married to Chandan in 2021, leading to ongoing conflicts with her father and brother, who disapproved of the marriage. On the day of the tragic incident, her father assaulted the couple with an iron rod, causing injuries to Chandan. Subsequently, Chandni’s brother arrived with a firearm and shot the couple, as well as the one-year-old girl.

The family members tragically lost their lives at the scene, and the suspects fled the village after committing the triple murder, as per the SP.

The authorities are actively working to apprehend the suspects while the community grapples with the disturbing and tragic loss of life.
