Turkey-bound Father Fatally Shot in Maryland Apartment Robbery

Takoma Park, Maryland – A tragic incident unfolded last week as a husband and father of two young children was fatally shot just days before his planned return to Turkey. Murat Pacal, who had been staying with a friend in Prince George’s County for two months, fell victim to a robbery attempt outside his apartment at Takoma Towers along New Hampshire Avenue. The shooting occurred after 3 a.m. on Dec. 5, leaving Pacal dead and his family devastated.

According to a relative who requested anonymity, Pacal had a ticket to return to Turkey the weekend after the shooting. He and his roommate were confronted by two masked individuals with a gun when they stepped outside to get medicine from his car. The roommate was robbed of his phone and keys, but Pacal resisted and was fatally shot in the altercation.

The family is now trying to raise money to send Pacal’s body back to Turkey for burial and to cover the expenses for his grieving family in the wake of this tragic event. They expressed disbelief that such a horrifying incident could occur in their community.

Prince George’s County police have assured that they are actively investigating the case and pursuing leads. Although details about the suspects and the stolen car at the scene remain unconfirmed by the police, the investigation is ongoing as the family seeks justice for their lost loved one.

In an effort to bring closure, the family is eager for answers and resolution in the case, hoping to see those responsible for this senseless act brought to justice. Moreover, the community is left shaken and mourning the loss of a beloved family man, as they grapple with the reality of such violence occurring in their neighborhood.
