Twitter, one of the world’s biggest social media platforms, is taking legal action after parts of its source code were leaked online. According to reports, hackers were able to access some of the code and shared it on the internet, which could potentially give them access to user data.
The leak was first reported by the New York Post, who cited anonymous sources within the company. The New York Times and HuffPost also confirmed the breach, which is said to be a serious security concern for Twitter.
Court filings obtained by CNBC show that Twitter is seeking to protect its intellectual property and prevent any further leaks from occurring.
In a statement, Twitter stressed that the leaked code does not contain any confidential user information, but still urged users to be cautious and vigilant.
“We take security seriously, and we’re committed to protecting our users’ data and the integrity of our platform,” the company said in the statement.
The leak comes at a time when social media companies are facing increased scrutiny over their handling of user data and privacy concerns. Twitter has previously faced criticism for its handling of data breaches, including a high-profile attack on several high-profile accounts in 2020.
The company is now said to be stepping up its security measures and working with law enforcement to identify and prosecute those responsible for the leak.
