The family of Tyre Nichols, a 25-year-old Memphis resident, is demanding justice after a newly released body cam video shows a violent traffic stop that resulted in Nichols’ death.
The video, released by the Memphis Police Department, shows officers violently restraining Nichols and using a stun gun on him multiple times.
The Nichols family’s attorney, Benjamin Crump, said the video was “appalling” and “a reminder of the Rodney King incident”. He went on to say that the video showed that Tyre Nichols was treated like a “human piƱata” by the officers.
The Memphis Police Department has not yet released any information about the officers involved in the incident or any possible charges against them.
Meanwhile, the Nichols family and their attorneys are calling for justice and accountability from the Memphis Police Department.
“We are asking for the Memphis Police Department to take action and for the officers involved to be held accountable for their actions,” said the Nichols family’s attorney.
The Nichols family has also started a petition to demand justice for Tyre Nichols and to hold the officers involved in the incident accountable.
