Ukraine Pulls Back From Bakhmut Amid US and Russia Nuclear Talks: Live Updates

As the conflict between Ukraine and Russia intensifies in the Bakhmut region of Eastern Ukraine, the Ukrainian government is reportedly considering a strategic retreat from the embattled area.

According to a Ukrainian government adviser, the Ukrainian government may “strategically pull back” from Bakhmut in order to protect its citizens from the Russian attack that has been intensifying in the region.

The adviser, Andriy Yermak, also said that the US and Russia are discussing a potential nuclear treaty to help de-escalate the situation. However, the details of the treaty remain unclear.

Meanwhile, Lt. Gen. John Nicholson, the commander of NATO forces in Ukraine, has outlined the key to beating the Russian-backed Wagner Group’s “WWI-style” fighting in Bakhmut. Nicholson said that the Ukrainian forces must remain unified, draw on their experience in the region, and use their superior equipment and training to gain the upper hand against the Wagner Group.

The situation in Bakhmut is still unfolding, and it remains to be seen whether the Ukrainian government will be able to successfully pull back from the region and negotiate a treaty with the US and Russia.
