Uncle Accused of Double Murder by Nephew in Lafayette Parish Trial

LAFAYETTE PARISH, LOUISIANA — In a chilling courtroom testimony, Joseph Sylvester pointed the finger at his uncle, Joshua Willis, alleging that Willis was the one responsible for the brutal murders of Ashley Metz and Brouklynn Hill. Willis currently stands trial for two counts of first-degree murder in Lafayette Parish.

Sylvester recounted how Willis allegedly shot Hill and set his car ablaze before turning his attention to Metz. According to Sylvester, Willis tied up Metz, took her to another location, and proceeded to shoot her as well, before setting her vehicle on fire.

The defense, however, raised doubts about Sylvester’s credibility, citing his criminal history and questioning his motives for testifying against his uncle. Sylvester had struck a plea deal with prosecutors, admitting guilt to obstruction of justice and burglary in exchange for a reduced sentence and immunity from the murder charges.

During cross-examination, the defense probed Sylvester about why he hadn’t come forward sooner about Willis’s alleged actions and why he had seemingly remained passive during the horrific events. In response, Sylvester cryptically suggested that speaking up could have endangered his own life.

The case revolves around the discovery of Metz and Hill’s charred remains in separate vehicles, with forensic evidence linking the bodies to the aspiring model and her boyfriend. The stakes for Willis are high, as he faces the prospect of spending life in prison or even receiving the death penalty if found guilty of the double homicides.

As the trial unfolds at the Lafayette District Court House, the community waits in anticipation for justice to be served for the victims and closure for their loved ones affected by this tragic tale of betrayal and violence. The legal proceedings shed light on the chilling details of the crime, underscoring the importance of seeking truth and accountability in the pursuit of justice.
