Unsolved: 10 Years Later, Topeka Quadruple Murder Remains a Mystery

TOPEKA, KS – Ten years have passed since the disturbing discovery of a quadruple murder in central Topeka. On December 1, 2013, two boys stumbled upon the body of Carla Avery behind a strip mall near SW 21st and Washburn. Shockingly, detectives found three more bodies, including Carla’s ex-husband Marvin Woods, her brother Eric Avery, and their friend Tamesha Lee inside Carla’s home in the 1600 block of SW Central Park.

Despite a decade passing, the case remains unsolved, prompting continued efforts by authorities to seek justice for the victims. The Kansas Dept. of Corrections’ “Cold Case Deck” featured the case last year in hopes of generating new leads from individuals in jails and prisons.

The Topeka Police Dept. continues to investigate the case, receiving assistance from the Shawnee Co. District Attorney’s Office Cold Case Investigator. Those with information on the case are urged to contact the Cold Case Investigator at 785-217-8487 or via email at patrick.mclaughlin@snco.us. Additionally, individuals may reach out to Shawnee Co. Crime Stoppers at 785-234-0007 to provide anonymous tips and potentially qualify for a cash reward. The community’s cooperation is crucial in bringing closure to this tragic event.

As the 10th anniversary of the Topeka quadruple murder passes, authorities are still working diligently to solve the case. The families and loved ones of Carla Avery, Marvin Woods, Eric Avery, and Tamesha Lee continue to seek justice and closure, and the community’s support remains vital in achieving these goals.
