Unsolved Murder Case: Local Author Aims to Crack the Mystery of Monroe’s 50-Year-Old Tragedy

MONROE, CT – A local writer is aiming to shed light on Monroe’s sole unresolved murder case dating back nearly half a century. Erik Hanson, a native of Monroe, recently discovered the tragic story of 8-year-old Renee Freer’s murder in 1977.

On June 22, 1977, Renee Freer was left under the care of her grandparents by her mother, who went to run an errand at a store.

Tragically, Renee’s lifeless body was found hours later in a wooded area close to her home, having been subjected to fatal blows from a rock found near her remains.

With a deep sense of determination and a desire for justice, Hanson anticipates the release of his forthcoming book next year, centered around Renee’s unresolved murder case. To further investigate and share insights on this tragic event, Hanson has also initiated a Facebook group titled “Who Killed Renee Freer.”

Individuals who possess any information related to this unsolved case are encouraged to contact the Monroe Police Detective Division at 203-452-2831. By encouraging community involvement and collaboration, Hanson hopes to potentially uncover new leads that could ultimately bring closure to Renee Freer’s case.
