Charleston, Illinois – Coles County Sheriff’s Office investigators are renewing efforts to seek information from the public regarding the unsolved murder of Linda Shriver, a 23-year-old woman from Mattoon who was killed 50 years ago. Shriver was last seen alive on March 9, 1974, driving her light blue 1969 Mercury Montego in Mattoon. Her body was discovered the following day under a bridge near Lake Paradise in rural Coles County, where she had been brutally beaten and strangled. Investigators found Shriver’s abandoned car about a mile west of Mattoon, south of Illinois Route 121.
Sheriff Kent Martin highlighted the significance of the 50th anniversary of the case and emphasized the importance of any information the public may have regarding Shriver’s murder. Despite a witness recalling seeing individuals attempting to enter Shriver’s vehicle, no arrests were made in connection to the case.
The Coles County Sheriff’s Office is urging individuals with any knowledge of the Shriver case, or any other relevant information, to come forward and speak with investigators. Those who may have information but are not active on social media are encouraged to share the request for information through word of mouth or other effective means.
Additionally, individuals who were previously interviewed in relation to the Shriver case but have since relocated are encouraged to update their contact information with the sheriff’s office.
