Video footage of man abandoning Texas newborn on footbridge

KATY, TX – A morning walk turned into an unexpected rescue mission for a Texas family after they discovered an abandoned newborn on June 15.

Daniela Fedele and her relatives were nearing the end of their walk along Casa Martin Drive near Bear Creek in Katy when they spotted something unusual. Upon closer inspection, they found a baby wrapped in a towel, with its tiny feet visibly moving. Fedele and her husband, responding with urgency, called 911 as they rushed the infant to safety and awaited the arrival of emergency services.

Law enforcement officials stated that a surveillance video captured a young male, who could be either Hispanic or White, hastily leaving the infant on a white footbridge before fleeing the scene. The baby girl, found with her umbilical cord still attached, was quickly transported to a local hospital, where she was reported to be in fair condition.

The Harris County Sheriff, Ed Gonzalez, took to social media seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual responsible for abandoning the baby. He provided a description of the suspect and appealed for any information that would lead to his capture.

Sgt. Juan Garcia emphasized the gravity of the situation, explaining that the person, once identified, could face charges related to child abandonment.

As the investigation continues, it remains uncertain whether the infant remains hospitalized or has been transferred into the foster care system. Authorities reminded the public that Texas law offers a safe alternative for parents to leave unwanted newborns at designated safe havens, like hospitals or fire stations, without facing legal consequences.

While the investigation is ongoing, with detectives canvassing the neighborhood for additional evidence, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office encourages anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
