NEWPORT NEWS, VA – A man has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder in the death of a Virginia woman found dead in her home, her body wrapped in a blood-soaked comforter inside a closet.
David Anderson, 30, was taken into custody on Monday for the alleged murder of 28-year-old Imani Parrish, according to the Newport News Police Department.
The grim discovery was made on April 30, around 9 p.m., when officers arrived at Parrish’s residence on Antrim Drive in response to her family’s concerns. They contacted authorities after her 10-year-old son was unable to reach her by phone, prompting Parrish’s mother to send her partner to check on her.
Upon entering the home, Parrish’s mother’s partner found her lifeless body, according to police. Court documents noted that detectives came across a shocking scene: the body of Parrish had been “shoved” into a closet, wrapped in a comforter drenched in blood, with a path of blood leading from the bathroom to where her body was found.
The medical examiner’s office reported that Parrish died from blunt force trauma to the head. Her clothing and the surrounding area bore traces of shattered glass.
In her obituary, Parrish is remembered not only as a devoted mother to her young son but also as a cherished family member and friend. Described as a talented painter, her joyful spirit and bright smile are celebrated in remembrance by those who knew her.
The family suspected from early on that Parrish’s killer was someone familiar to her. Although police have not specified Anderson’s relationship to Parrish, they confirmed he became a suspect based on developments throughout the investigation.
In an emotional appeal in May, Parrish’s mother, Nichole Parrish, expressed her belief that her daughter deeply cared for the person responsible. She urged for justice while asking the alleged perpetrator to come forward.
Now, with Anderson facing murder charges, the family awaits further legal proceedings, hoping for closure in a case that has deeply shaken their community.
