West Virginia woman holds down 5-year-old daughter and pulls out her front teeth because she has a demon inside her

LESTER, WV – Authorities in southern West Virginia have arrested a 40-year-old mother after she allegedly pinned down her 5-year-old daughter and forcibly removed two of the child’s teeth during a disturbing incident inside their home last week.

Deputies with the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office responded Thursday to a report of possible child abuse at a residence in Lester, a small community located about an hour southeast of Charleston. When officers arrived at the scene, they were met by family members and immediately launched an investigation into the suspected assault.

According to investigators, Rebecca Lee Bailey is accused of restraining her young daughter and pulling out two of the girl’s bottom front teeth. Officials have not said whether any tools were used in the alleged incident or provided additional details about how the teeth were removed.

A witness present at the home told deputies that during the assault, Bailey reportedly shouted that her daughter “had a demon in her” and was seen clutching a cross. The witness’s account has added a troubling dimension to the case, suggesting possible religious motivations tied to the alleged abuse.

The situation escalated until another adult relative was awakened by the commotion and quickly intervened, preventing possible further harm to the child. That family member then contacted law enforcement and remained with the injured girl until authorities arrived.

Bailey was taken into custody at the scene. She has been charged with felony child abuse resulting in bodily injury by a parent or guardian and was transported to the Southern Regional Jail for processing.

Officials said Child Protective Services and Emergency Medical Services also responded to the home. The 5-year-old was assessed for injuries and released into the care of a responsible family member pending further investigation. No additional injuries were reported.

Authorities have not commented on what may have prompted the attack or whether Bailey has a history of similar incidents. The alleged assault remains under active investigation, and officials have refrained from speculating on further details.

Court documents reveal Bailey is being held on a $50,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear before a judge for a preliminary hearing on June 30.

Officials praised the quick actions of the family member who intervened and the responding deputies for their efforts in ensuring the child’s safety.
