Venice Film Festival to Open with World Premiere of Luca Guadagnino’s “Challengers”
The 80th Venice Film Festival will kick off with the world premiere of director Luca Guadagnino’s highly anticipated film, “Challengers.” The movie will be screened Out of Competition on August 30th, marking the opening night of the festival at the Sala Grande in the Palazzo del Cinema in Lido di Venezia.
“Challengers” stars Zendaya as Tashi Duncan, a formidable former tennis prodigy turned coach. She is married to a champion tennis player on a losing streak, played by Mike Faist. When her husband must face off against his former best friend, played by Josh O’Connor, tensions rise and past and present collide. Tashi is faced with a pivotal decision: what is she willing to sacrifice for victory?
