KYIV, Ukraine — In a significant reshuffle, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has appointed Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence, as the new chief of staff as the country faces increasing challenges amid Russia’s ongoing invasion. This decision comes at a pivotal juncture as Ukraine seeks to navigate complex diplomatic relations and military strategies nearly four years into the conflict.

Budanov takes over from Andrii Yermak, a key aide to Zelenskyy, who resigned following an anti-corruption investigation that raised questions about transparency in the energy sector. Budanov, 39, has been at the forefront of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, known as the GUR, since 2020.
