GUTHRIE, OK – Authorities in Logan County have charged a teenager with first-degree murder after a gruesome incident in which he is accused of killing his adoptive mother and attempting to conceal the crime by hiding her body in a trash bin outside their home.
Jordan Cole Weems, 16, faces three felony charges: first-degree murder, desecration of a human corpse, and unauthorized removal of a dead body. Prosecutors allege Weems meticulously planned and carried out the fatal attack on his adoptive mother, 49-year-old Spring Weems. Court documents reveal that the teen will stand trial as an adult.
According to investigators, the crime unfolded in the overnight hours when Jordan allegedly waited for Spring Weems to arrive, then struck her in the face with a hammer, continued the assault until she was unconscious, and inflicted further blows, resulting in significant injury to her face and head. Authorities say the brutality of the assault left her with severe, disfiguring injuries.
Police reports indicate Jordan later confessed to the murder, admitting he initially struck his mother between the eyes before continuing the attack with both his fists and the hammer. Detectives said Jordan made several attempts to cover up his actions, including hiding the body in a trash bin and developing stories to explain his mother’s disappearance to family members.
Court filings describe the killing as premeditated, noting that Jordan had threatened to harm his mother prior to the incident. Prosecutors stated that he took steps such as retrieving the hammer in advance and lying in wait to ambush her in the middle of the night. Following the attack, he reportedly attempted to clean the crime scene and craft alibis to mislead his siblings and authorities.
The investigation revealed that tension between Jordan and Spring Weems escalated after the teen and a sibling were caught sneaking out of the house, which led to the pair being pursued by police. As a disciplinary measure, Spring Weems made her sons write apology letters to law enforcement, put them on a restrictive diet, and required them to wear orange jumpsuits as a warning about potential consequences of their behavior.
During this period, authorities say Jordan openly threatened to kill his mother in conversations with siblings. He also attempted to mislead the family, telling one sibling their mother had gone to assist their older sister with a new baby. When Spring Weems remained missing, concerns mounted, prompting her ex-husband to notify authorities.
On January 28, deputies responded to the family home after reports of an altercation between Jordan and one of his brothers in the street. Upon arrival, officers encountered the siblings, one of whom shouted an accusation about the murder. A search quickly uncovered Spring Weems’ body concealed in a trash bin at the curb.
Prosecutors argued successfully that Jordan Weems should be held without bond, citing both the severity of the offense and the risk of flight. They also noted the absence of a parent or guardian willing to take responsibility for his supervision before the trial.
The court agreed with the prosecution’s request, and Jordan Weems is being detained pending trial. His next court appearance is scheduled for February 24 as the investigation continues.
