2-year-old boy beaten and whipped to death by mom while dad watched, body found in dumpster

LAS VEGAS, NV – In what has become a harrowing case of child abuse and homicide, Las Vegas police have detained a young couple following the discovery of their 2-year-old son’s body. The toddler, who was initially reported missing, was found deceased inside a dumpster, exhibiting an array of severe bruises.

Parents Diaja M. Smith, 23, and Jacoby Robinson, 24, face charges of open murder and child abuse in connection with the death of their son, Jacoby Robinson Jr. The police department’s statement revealed that authorities responded to a missing child report late in the evening, which initiated an urgent citywide search for the toddler.

The ill-fated search ended tragically in the early hours of the following day when police located young Robinson Jr.’s body in a garbage container. Medical responders on-site declared the boy dead, and homicide detectives took charge of the subsequent investigation.

Neighbors provided unsettling details, with one local resident recalling an encounter with Smith, who appeared distraught and was accompanied by her other children near the dumpster where her son was eventually discovered.

Further exacerbating the case’s grimness, allegations emerged during a court hearing that Robinson participated in the abuse that led to the child’s extensive injuries, including bruises and patterns of abrasions on his body indicative of rubber band ligatures.

The community has been left shocked by these developments as law enforcement and the Clark County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate to determine the precise cause of the young boy’s death. Both Smith and Robinson remain incarcerated without the possibility of bail, with court proceedings set to resume shortly.
