EAST LIVERPOOL, OH – Tensions boiled over during a candlelight vigil for a young Ohio woman who lost her life and that of her unborn child last summer, as authorities over the weekend arrested her boyfriend in connection with her death.
Cameron Martin, 20, is facing multiple felony charges after prosecutors allege he was behind the wheel of a car that struck and killed his 21-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Stephanie Householder, during an argument last July at the Broadway Wharf parking lot in East Liverpool. Householder’s death and the loss of her pregnancy sparked both grief and unrest in the community.
The fatal incident unfolded on July 19, 2025, when police say a heated exchange between the couple led Householder to exit the vehicle and walk behind it. As Martin reversed, authorities allege he struck her, causing critical injuries to both her and her unborn child. Responding officers found Householder on the ground in front of the car, with Martin kneeling beside her.
Emergency responders quickly transported Householder via helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. Despite medical intervention, she and her unborn baby did not survive, both pronounced dead shortly after their arrival.
According to an indictment handed down last week, Martin faces two counts each of involuntary manslaughter and aggravated vehicular homicide. Prosecutors contend that he acted recklessly with the vehicle, directly resulting in Householder’s death and the unlawful end of her pregnancy. The charges allege his actions fell under aggravated vehicular assault statutes due to the context of the incident.
While Martin told investigators he kept an eye on Householder using his rearview mirror before the crash, police are still working to determine whether the incident was a tragic accident or something more intentional. Detectives stated that Martin has been cooperating, but the investigation remains ongoing.
Adding to the turbulence surrounding the case, Martin returned to the scene the day after the incident to organize a candlelight vigil in Householder’s memory. The mood quickly shifted as emotions ran high among attendees, prompting law enforcement to disperse the crowd. The gathering nearly turned violent before order was restored.
Martin is currently being held at the Columbiana County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash or surety bond. He awaits his initial court appearance before Judge Scott Washam, scheduled for the afternoon of February 26.
Authorities continue to gather evidence as the community mourns Householder’s loss, awaiting further developments in a case that has shaken this small city along the Ohio River.
