VINE GROVE, KY – A Meade County man faces serious charges after police say he assaulted and strangled a woman during an altercation outside a local Dollar General store early Saturday morning, then attempted to evade authorities at his home not far from the scene.
Kentucky State Police arrested Donald Brown, 48, after he allegedly attacked a woman while both were inside a vehicle parked outside the store. According to investigators, the confrontation escalated into physical violence, resulting in the woman being strangled and subsequently falling from the car, which caused her to strike her head.
Shortly after midnight, troopers responded to the area following a 911 call. The woman, who reported the incident herself, told authorities that Brown had choked her before she exited or was forced from the vehicle. She sustained what officials described as minor injuries and was able to give police details about the incident and suspect.
After the attack, authorities say Brown left the Dollar General location. The investigation quickly led law enforcement to Brown’s home on Jennings Knob Road in Vine Grove. Upon arrival, troopers ordered the suspect to come out, but he refused to comply.
Facing a standoff situation, Kentucky State Police sought and obtained both a search warrant and an arrest warrant for Brown. After several hours, officers entered the residence around 7:30 a.m. and took Brown into custody without further incident.
Jail records indicate Brown has been charged with first-degree strangulation in connection with domestic violence and fourth-degree domestic assault resulting in minor injury. He was booked into the Meade County jail and is being held without bond. Details regarding his initial court appearance have not yet been released.
Authorities have not identified the victim and have withheld additional information about her condition, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation. The specific location of the Dollar General involved in the incident has also not been disclosed as officers continue to gather evidence.
Incidents of domestic violence remain a major concern for law enforcement agencies in Kentucky, with state officials encouraging victims to seek help and report cases as soon as possible.
Vine Grove, a community of about 6,000 residents, is situated roughly 45 miles south of Louisville. The case continues to be under active investigation by the Kentucky State Police.
