MOWEAQUA, IL – A tragic murder-suicide has shaken the small community of Moweaqua, Illinois.

Authorities have determined that 47-year-old Danny Trueblood fatally shot his wife, Rebecca Trueblood, 44, before turning the gun on himself. The couple’s deaths were discovered by one of their sons on Wednesday morning, though officials believe the incident occurred the previous night.

The family’s son revealed that his father had grappled with mental health issues and had earlier threatened his mother. “He just wasn’t the best father,” the son said, noting a noticeable decline in Danny’s mental health over recent months. He remembered his mother fondly, describing her as someone who “had the biggest heart and always put others before herself.”

Danny had recently posted about divorce proceedings on his social media, hinting at possible domestic tensions. Neighbors recalled the couple as high school sweethearts who both pursued careers in nursing. Danny was also known for running a tattoo business from their home.

The surviving son expressed his grief, stating that he holds no positive feelings towards his father, whom he blames for taking his mother away from him.

The murder-suicide of the Truebloods marks the second such tragedy to hit Central Illinois this month. In a similar case less than two weeks earlier in Mattoon, the local coroner reported that Davontye Browder killed Keisha Seeley before ending his own life.
