The demonstration began peacefully, but quickly escalated into a riot as protesters took to the streets to voice their outrage. Fox News reported that the riot was a backlash against the city’s “Cop City” reputation.
The violence reached a climax when protesters used explosives to set fire to a police car, engulfing it in flames. 11Alive reported that the fire was so intense that it damaged nearby buildings.
