The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) made history on Saturday night, crowning a new light heavyweight champion at UFC 283. Jamahal Hill earned the vacant title with a dominant performance against Glover Teixeira in the main event at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Hill was in complete control from the opening bell, using his superior striking and athleticism to keep Teixeira off balance. He landed several hard punches and kicks throughout the fight, and Teixeira was unable to mount any sort of offense. Hill earned a unanimous decision victory and the vacant light heavyweight title.
In the co-main event, Ismael Bonfim put Terrance McKinney out cold with a spectacular flying knee knockout. Bonfim caught McKinney with a perfectly-timed knee to the chin, sending him crashing to the canvas. The knockout was the highlight of the night, and earned Bonfim a Performance of the Night bonus.
At the post-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White praised Hill’s performance, calling him “the future of the light heavyweight division”. Hill thanked his team for their support and said he was looking forward to defending his title.
The night was full of exciting finishes, as several other fights ended in spectacular fashion. Fans were treated to a great night of fights, and the winners were all smiles at the post-fight press conference.
