PENSACOLA, FL – A Florida man is facing serious charges following a violent Thanksgiving morning altercation with his former wife’s current husband, authorities said.
Gregory Grant, 72, was arrested Thursday and charged with attempted homicide following an incident that occurred around 11:15 a.m. in the 10000 block of MacGregor Drive in Pensacola, roughly 200 miles from Tallahassee, according to the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Grant had been temporarily residing with his ex-wife and her husband, Alan Bingham. An argument between Grant and Bingham allegedly escalated into physical violence, resulting in Bingham being stabbed in the abdomen.
Deputies responded rapidly to the scene, and Grant was subsequently apprehended and booked into the Escambia County Jail shortly after 1 p.m., where jail records confirm he remains held without bond as of Friday.
Bingham was swiftly taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Reports indicate that Bingham’s injuries are serious but not expected to be life-threatening.
Bingham shared his account of events, indicating that Grant, who had been struggling with homelessness, was offered temporary shelter at their home. “He got angry and didn’t want to associate with me,” Bingham recounted of the moments leading up to the attack.
Bingham further described the suddenness of the assault, noting that Grant produced a knife unexpectedly. During the struggle, Bingham managed to defend himself and call for help. “I tripped him to get away and called 911,” he explained.
Despite the serious nature of the altercation, authorities noted that the incident does not meet the criteria for domestic violence charges.
Grant, who remains detained, is expected in court on December 20. The unfolding legal proceedings will determine the next steps in this troubling case.
