76-year-old Parkinson’s patient strangled, stabbed by woman who stole his van

FARIBAULT, MN – A Minnesota woman has been charged in connection with the murder of a 76-year-old Faribault man, whose lifeless form was discovered in his home in early February. Authorities allege the woman, who once shared a residence with the deceased, subsequently fled south in the man’s vehicle, aiming for the Mexico border.

Upon performing a welfare check on February 5, law enforcement officers stumbled upon a grim scene: the body of Gary Lehmeyer in his Faribault abode. The authorities then ascertained that the man had been a victim of a brutal attack. Thorough investigations led to charges against 32-year-old Arlene Bell, alleging she played a pivotal role in his death.

According to officials, there is evidence suggesting that Lehmeyer sustained fatal injuries consistent with being stabbed and strangled. Furthermore, his body was found restrained, pointing to a sinister plot that led to his untimely demise.

The day Lehmeyer’s body was discovered, Bell was halted by a state trooper in Iowa. Her erratic behavior raised suspicions of drug intoxication. During the exchange, Bell admitted to the trooper that she had been using methamphetamine days before the encounter and was experiencing the tail-end of its effects.

Bell is now facing a charge of second-degree murder, adding to the initial charge of motor vehicle theft she incurred following the discovery of her illicit journey in Lehmeyer’s van. Medical reports indicate that at the time of his death, Lehmeyer had been battling serious health challenges, including Parkinson’s dementia, which he had been diagnosed with around ten years prior to his death.

Currently held in custody in Dallas County, Iowa, Bell awaits extradition proceedings that would bring her back to Minnesota to answer for the allegations laid against her. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community of Faribault, a town unaccustomed to dealing with such violent offenses.

As this case unfolds, investigators continue to delve into the dynamics of the relationship between Bell and Lehmeyer, trying to understand the motives that culminated in the tragedy. With formal legal processes underway, a clearer picture of the events that transpired in the lead-up to Lehmeyer’s death will hopefully emerge.
