COIMBATORE, India – A 46-year-old man has been arrested by the police for the murder of a 20-year-old transman who went missing from Sulthanpet in Coimbatore district in January. The suspect, Radhakrishnan (44), was charged with the murder of Kavi alias Kaveri, a native of Theni who had been working in a spinning mill near Sulthanpet. He was remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.

Kavi had been residing with another transman and a young girl in a rented house near Sulthanpet, but went missing on January 2. The police registered a case on January 8 after a friend of Kavi lodged a complaint about the disappearance. It was later revealed that Radhakrishnan’s brother had abducted Kavi, and during interrogation, he confessed that his brother had murdered Kavi. The police arrested the brother on January 31.

According to the police, Radhakrishnan revealed during questioning that his brother wanted to get close to Kavi’s friend, Vydehi, which Kavi opposed. The brothers then plotted to eliminate Kavi, taking him to Pachapalayam where he was then murdered. They burned the body and abandoned it at Gudimangalam in Tiruppur district. Subsequently, a separate case was registered by the Gudimangalam police after a charred body was found near a well on February 1.
