Attack Charges: Man Charged in Rockford Stabbing Rampage that Left Four Dead and Seven Injured

Rockford, Illinois – A man is facing charges after a violent attack that resulted in the deaths of four individuals, including a teenage girl, and left seven others injured. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon, involved multiple stabbings in the Rockford area.

The suspect, identified as Christian Soto, 22, has been charged with multiple counts of murder/intent to kill and home invasion. He is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday afternoon. The attack unfolded in a neighborhood within a short period, starting with a home invasion near Florence Street and Eggleston Road.

The chaotic scene quickly escalated as a young woman attempting to escape was stabbed in the face and hands, along with a Good Samaritan who came to her aid. Multiple 911 calls poured in reporting the attacker’s rampage throughout the area of Holmes Street, Winnetka Drive, and Cleveland Avenue, prompting responses from law enforcement and emergency services.

According to Rockford Police Chief Carla Redd, the violence resulted in four fatalities, one critically injured individual, and four others hospitalized. While some victims were stabbed, there were no reports of gunshot wounds. Additionally, two more people sustained injuries in Winnebago County.

Among the deceased were a 15-year-old girl, a 63-year-old woman, a 49-year-old man, and a 22-year-old man, leaving the community in shock and grief. Witnesses noted the loss of a beloved mail carrier, who was known for his kindness and helpful nature.

Officials have yet to determine the motive behind the attack, leaving residents and authorities searching for answers. Mayor Tom McNamara expressed his concerns over the violence and assured the community of ongoing efforts to support those impacted by the tragedy.

Counseling services will be made available to affected individuals at Flinn Middle School on Thursday as the community grapples with the aftermath of the devastating incident, hoping to recover and heal together.
