Deebo Samuel Vows Redemption After ‘Awful’ 2022 NFL Season with the 49ers

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel is determined to have a better season in 2022 after what he called an “awful” 2021. Samuel spoke to various news outlets including ESPN, NBC Sports, and Sports Illustrated about his disappointing performance last season, where he only played eight games due to injuries and recorded just 361 receiving yards and one touchdown.

“I’m definitely looking to make up for last year,” Samuel said in an interview with Sports Illustrated. “I’m just trying to turn the page and put that behind me and come back stronger than ever.”

Samuel, who was drafted by the 49ers in 2019, had a breakout season in 2020 where he had 1,193 receiving yards and six touchdowns. He said he’s been working hard this offseason to improve his game and stay healthy.

“I’m more than ready to go,” Samuel told ESPN. “I’m in great shape, mentally and physically. I’m just ready to get out there and play.”

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed confidence in Samuel’s ability to bounce back.

“I know how talented he is,” Shanahan said in a press conference. “He’s a freak of nature when it comes to just being able to run through tackles and make plays after the catch. We’re excited to see what he can do this year.”

Samuel and the rest of the 49ers will begin their 2022 season on September 12th against the Detroit Lions.
