Disney: CEO Successor to Bob Iger Expected in Early 2026 – Who Will Take the Throne?

Los Angeles, California – The search for a successor to Bob Iger as the CEO of Disney is already underway, with the board expecting to make an announcement in early 2026. The guessing game has begun as to who will take over the leadership at the Magic Kingdom.

Headhunting firm Heidrick & Struggles has been brought in by the media company to explore candidates outside of Disney. Three potential candidates have been identified, including Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson. While it is still early in the process, it has been confirmed that Wilson is being considered. Both Disney and EA have declined to comment on the matter.

James Gorman, who leads Disney’s CEO search committee, was named chairman of the company in October, taking over from Mark Parker. The decision to look beyond the four division heads who were previously considered likely candidates indicates Disney’s intent to find a fresh perspective for the role.

Wilson, originally from Australia, has been the chairman and CEO of EA since 2013. He has an extensive background in the gaming industry, having led various aspects of EA’s business before taking on the top role. In 2018, Wilson interviewed for the CEO position at ESPN and engaged in discussions about potentially selling EA to Disney.

Gorman, currently the executive chairman of Morgan Stanley, will be stepping down from his role at the end of 2024. He has been tasked with overseeing the CEO succession process at Disney, ensuring a smooth transition before Bob Iger’s contract ends in December 2026.

The issue of CEO succession at Disney has been a point of contention, particularly highlighted by activist investor Nelson Peltz’s proxy fight against the company. Peltz criticized the board for its handling of CEO succession planning, ultimately leading to Iger’s return as CEO after the ousting of Chapek in 2022. Peltz recently sold all his Disney shares after losing his bid to shake up the board.

As Disney continues its search for a new CEO, the industry awaits the announcement expected in early 2026. The selection of Iger’s successor will undoubtedly shape the future of the entertainment giant.
