NEW HAVEN, Conn. – A man was fatally shot in a reported drive-by shooting in New Haven on Tuesday evening, according to Mayor Justin Elicker. The shooting took place at the intersection of Grand Avenue and East Pearl Street.
Police are currently investigating the incident, which occurred when a car pulled up next to a man walking down East Pearl Street and shot him in the chest. The victim died at the scene, and his identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Elicker expressed the city’s commitment to addressing the rising violence, stating, “Obviously police are working very hard to catch the people who took this person’s life. Overall, we’re doing a lot to confront the violence we are seeing in New Haven and have made a lot of progress in the last year.”
The shooting is now being treated as a homicide, and authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the police. The city is taking proactive measures to curb violence, including community outreach, new technology, intervention programs, and the installation of cameras.
